Who Am I Mask
Inspired by masks from around the world and contemporary artists, such as Namsa Leuba who explore cultural identity in their work, students worked from self- portrait photographs the students then traced the contours of their faces on acetate with sharpie marker. On three identity worksheets, the students explored aspects of cultural identity, elements in nature, and shapes / patterns of their choice and then combined them in a way that is more personal to themselves Using primary colors & white, the students learned to mix colors in preparation for their paintings. The “Who Am I” mask project allows for the students to delve deeper into their identity.
