Hello & Welcome
Angelica Mercedez-Lei is a visual artist and art educator based in New York City. Born and raised along the border of Queens and Long Island, her early environment deeply informed her sensitivity to place, observation, and creative inquiry. She attended the High School of Art and Design, specializing in Illustration, and later earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Art and Design Education from Pratt Institute.
Lei approaches art as an expansive and accessible mode of expression—one that should be explored, in some capacity, by all people. Central to her philosophy is the belief that artistic practice is not defined by product, but by process. She emphasizes progress, presence, and engagement, valuing the visceral, mental, and physical experience of making as integral to both artistic growth and human connection.
From an early age, She has been drawn to the beauty of the natural world, a sensibility that continues to shape her creative work and pedagogical practice. Through her art and instruction, she seeks to cultivate spaces where making becomes a means of understanding what it means to be human, encouraging others to create with intention, curiosity, and openness.
"The colors painted in the sky during both sunrises & sunsets makes my heart happy. Everything God creates in the natural represents His glory, I pray that the stuff I create points to the glory of Jesus. Amen."
"I am the creation of the Ultimate Creator of the Universe God who has given me the ability to create"
